Big Ten mum on conference expansion (AP)The Big Ten did not take formal action during a meeting Sunday about conference expansion, although officials say their timeline may change after the Pac-10 revealed plans for their own expansion. The 11 school presidents and chancellors met for about 4 1/2 hours, and Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney said the majority of time was spent on expansion dialogue.

Former La.-Lafayette coach Stokley dies (AP)Louisiana-Lafayette’s former football coach and athletic director Nelson Stokley has died from complications brought on by Alzheimer’s disease. University officials confirmed that Stokley died Saturday at the age of 66. The native of Kennedy, Texas, led the Ragin’ Cajuns for 13 seasons from 1986 to 1998 and ranks second on the school’s all-time coaching victories list.
